Nielsen logs busy week with Arbitron, Twitter deals

Nielsen Holdings? $1.26 billion deal to acquire Columbia, Md.-based Arbitron Inc. made headlines when it was announced Tuesday because it will join up two of the biggest names in the media-ratings business.

But media watchers and ad agency insiders seem to be equally intrigued by a deal Nielsen unveiled Monday to create a Nielsen Twitter TV rating with the popular social networking site. Nielsen will now measure how much traffic on Twitter different TV programs get, providing advertisers and TV networks with fast feedback about the popularity of their shows.
